Caroline Bommer has been a patent specialist with Shelston IP since 1989 and a partner since 1994. Caroline works primarily in the patent area but also advises on design protection. She specialises in drafting patent specifications, providing validity and infringement advice, defending and enforcing patents before the Australian Courts and advising on intellectual property portfolio management.
Caroline’s area of technical expertise is in mechanical engineering, having specialised at university in automated manufacturing systems and gas turbine technology.
Prior to joining the patent profession, Caroline acquired extensive engineering design and management experience with various companies, including the Smiths Industries Group in the UK and Australia. She was involved in the design and manufacture of air moving systems, automotive original equipment such as car instruments, windscreen washing equipment, heaters and the like, builders hardware and security systems as well as thermocouples and ignition systems for gas turbine engines, the latter being primarily for aerospace and defense applications. She has also had experience in the tobacco processing industry.
Since joining the patent profession Caroline has been involved in a broad range of technologies with extensive experience in building industry and mining-related applications.
When not involved in professional and family life, Caroline enjoys kayaking, reading, bushwalking and boating.
