Bill Lloyd joined the firm in 1974 and was a partner from 1976 until his retirement in 1996.

Since then, he has retained an active interest in the firm as a consultant, primarily providing regular tutorials in patent specification drafting.  He began these tutorials in the 1980s to provide the firm’s new trainees with a secure grounding in the core skills and traditions of patent drafting, which remain as a cornerstone of the profession.

Bill has had over 30 years’ experience in the patent and trade mark profession, initially as an examiner of patents in 1973 and then as a technical assistant, patent attorney and partner in the firm.  Before retiring from active practice, Bill worked extensively in the preparation and analysis of patent specifications and the prosecution of applications to grant of patent in Australia and overseas.  He has also acted as an expert witness in litigation involving patents.  He retains an active interest in the profession and continues to tutor students for their drafting examinations in Australia, New Zealand and India.

Bill’s area of technical expertise is primarily mechanical, but he has been known to treat his students to specification drafting exercises in the fields of chemical engineering, biotechnology and electronics.

He has a keen interest in investment and finance and enjoys his collection of vintage steam automobiles.
