Protectelec Pty Ltd is an Australian company based in Newcastle that is developing and commercialising electrical switching technology for mains and other wiring systems. The switches may be included in new products, but are also easily retrofitted to existing products.
Protectelec has obtained Standards Australia approval for the switches, which provide high-speed operation in the presence of a fault, and low-power consumption. Unlike most conventional protection switches for mains wired systems there is no need for access to the earth wire.
In addition to having built the Protex™ Safety House in Newcastle to demonstrate their switches and the wiring system, Protectelec has also been successful in obtaining a COMET grant to assist in refining the manufacture of the technology.
Protectelec has worked together with Shelston IP since the conception of the technology. This has allowed good use to be made of the patent system to assist with the on-going commercialisation of the technology.
