Alana’s background is in information technologies and physics, with a particular focus on computer systems and software development.


  • Overview

    Alana is a Registered Patent Attorney in Australia and New Zealand with a background in physics and information technologies, with a particular focus on photonics, computer systems and software development.

    Prior to joining Shelston IP, Alana spent time working at the Gemini Observatory in Hawaii, where she developed programs for data processing to determine star formation histories of galaxies in clusters. She has experience developing and coding programs for various astronomy and physics related purposes. She has also worked on technical translations with the Journal of Plasma and Fusion Research, and is now applying translation skills to assist clients with complex patent-specific issues that can arise due to translational effects.

    After registration, Alana completed a Professional Education Certificate in Silicon Photonics. She designed and tested integrated optical devices and circuits fabricated on silicon chips, and explored silicon CMOS-integrated nanophotonics for computer and data technologies.

    Throughout her career, Alana has developed and honed her skills in prosecution work and drafting. Alana focuses mainly on patent work in the physics and ICT space, particularly working with defence technologies, sensing technologies and software technologies.
