Molecular Biology

Molecular biology is a broad field of research that overlaps with other areas of biology and chemistry, particularly genetics, immunology, biochemistry, cell biology and biotechnology. The field of molecular biology predominantly focuses on the manipulation of nucleic acids such as DNA and/or RNA to shed light on the molecular basis of biological activity. Molecular biology is also the foundation for protein expression systems and recombinant microorganisms, animals and plants.

The attorneys in our life sciences team collectively have extensive international doctoral and post-doctoral research expertise in molecular biology covering a diverse range of research disciplines including:

  • infectious diseases, such as HIV and tuberculosis
  • neuroscience, including Alzheimer’s disease and multiple sclerosis
  • cancer
  • immunology, such as T-cell biology and antibody engineering
  • vaccine development
  • cardiology
  • protein expression systems and
  • plant sciences.

Our attorneys’ research expertise together with their professional IP-related experience enables them to deal with all aspects of molecular biology patents and applications, including: drafting; prosecution; conducting opposition proceedings; and providing validity and infringement advice.
