神経生物学 Neurobiology

神経生物学の分野では、発生段階の全てにおける人間の思考、感情、からだの痛みなど、神経系細胞の情報処理機能、その構成を研究します。アルツハイマー病及びパーキンソン病などの注目されている変性疾患だけでなく、多発性硬化症などの認知機能に影響を与える疾患、トゥレット症候群、強迫性障害、うつ病及び不安神経症などその原因が比較的よくわかっていない疾患にも焦点をあてています。

The field of neurobiology is devoted to the cells of the nervous system and questions, amongst other things, how we think, feel, do and hurt, at all stages of development.  Within this research arena, much attention is focused on degenerative disorders, such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease, as well as diseases that affect cognitive functions, such as multiple sclerosis, Tourette’s sydnrome, obsessive compulsive disorder, depression and anxiety, the causes for which are still relatively poorly understood.

 

There is exceptional depth to the neurobiology expertise at Shelston IP, with our attorneys having specialised in the field at both a doctoral and postdoctoral level.  In particular,  attorneys in the Life Sciences group at Shelston IP have held research positions in prestigious neurobiology research institutes such as the Max Planck Institute of Neurobiology in Germany, the Neuroscience Department of the Institute of Psychiatry in London and the Neuroscience Research Unit at the University of Sydney.  The research areas covered by our attorneys include identification of early detection markers for Alzheimer’s disease, neural transplantation techniques, development of cell and animal models for degenerative disorders,  and investigations into autoantibody mediated axonal injury.
