  • Overview

Alex is a specialist intellectual property disputes lawyer (foreign-qualified) with particular experience in multi-jurisdictional patent litigation. Alex has over a decade of experience in advising clients on disputes relating to patents, patent term extensions, copyright, confidential information/trade secrets, designs, trade marks and unfair competition. He also advises on related issues, including IP protection strategies and freedom to operate. Unusually for a lawyer, Alex has gained experience of drafting and prosecuting patents from his time as an in-house IP lawyer for United Technologies Corp. (UTC). He believes that this has given him an additional perspective on patent issues.

Alex has a technical background in life sciences and has represented a number of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world in disputes relating to generic versions of their drugs. He has also acted in patent disputes against the likes of AbbVie, Apple, Biogen, Motorola Solutions, Nokia, Transocean and Virgin Media, illustrating the range of his industry experience. All but one of Alex’s cases have had a successful outcome, i.e. winning at trial or settling on favourable terms for his client.

Alex is qualified in England and Wales and worked for several leading IP law firms in London before joining Shelston IP. He has advised on cases before the courts of Australia, the UK, Germany, the Netherlands and the US.
