  • Duncan is a specialised intellectual property lawyer.  His experience and expertise cover the full spectrum of intellectual property matters, including litigation and oppositions, advice on infringement, enforcement, validity and protection of intellectual property rights, licensing, assignments, acquisitions and commercialisation of technologies and developing and protecting trade marks and brand names.

    Duncan has a particular interest and practice focus in patent disputes, including in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, information technology, financial services, mining/energy and consumer goods sectors.  He has also acted in numerous contentious and advisory matters relating to copyright, confidential information, trade marks, trade practices, privacy and competition law.

    Duncan is an expert litigator, having conducted major complex IP litigation for major multinationals and listed Australian companies in the Federal Court of Australia and High Court of Australia, as well as smaller commercial, administrative (Patent Office, Trade Marks Office, Australian Administrative Tribunal, Copyright Tribunal) and other disputes.

    Duncan is also an experienced commercial lawyer, having provided drafting, negotiation, transactional (assignment, licensing, due diligence) and other IP-related commercial advice to large and small local and foreign companies and to State and Commonwealth Governments, including in the context of mergers and acquisitions, public listings and capital raisings.

    • Bachelor of Science (BSc, Double Major in Cell and Molecular Biology), The Australian National University (2006).
