IP Litigator

The Role

You will be an integral part of our legal team which deals with a variety of interesting and challenging intellectual property-related commercial and litigation matters. Working with a highly regarded local and international client base you will assist the Principals in the conduct of intellectual property litigation.

This will include drafting pleadings and submissions, briefing counsel, preparing expert and lay evidence and attending Court as required.  You will prepare advice for clients on a range of intellectual property issues, assist in the conduct of trade mark and patent oppositions.  You will also contribute to the team’s marketing and business development planning and take an active role in the team’s marketing activities and prepare articles and presentations for publication within the firm and externally.  Working in a small team, you will adopt a flexible approach as you do whatever is necessary to ensure the task is accomplished and the clients’ expectations are met.

About our Practice

Our litigation team is well known for its involvement in leading IP cases. We are regularly recognised for our work in rankings publications such as MIP, IAM and Doyle’s Guide. We enjoy a diverse range of work, acting for clients ranging from multinational pharmaceutical and medical device companies to suppliers in the mining industry, nutraceutical manufacturers, large entertainment companies and local Australian manufacturers in many fields. We are currently acting for Hytera, a Chinese digital mobile radio manufacturer, in major Federal Court patent and copyright litigation. Other recent examples of our work include acting in several leading cases on the patentability of computer software (Research Affiliates and Encompass v Infotrack), acting for the largest global independent manufacturer of lubricants (Quaker v Fuchs) and preparing for potential generic entry into the relevant market for a major global pharmaceutical company.

Our Ideal Candidate

You will have:

  • Excellent academic results
  • At least 3 years PQE in IP litigation, including solid recent experience with contentious patent matters
  • Strong commitment to client service
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Adaptability to all types and levels of work
  • Excellent attention to detail but also able to conceptualise the ‘big picture’
  • Time management and prioritising skills.
